Do it once, do it well! Exceptional results at exceptional value! Those are the goals I have for my patients.

1. Affordable dental care

I understand that dental treatment is often viewed as being too expensive. So my aim is to make dental treatment affordable for everyone. Over the years, I have extended my knowledge and skills with countless hours of continuing professional development which allows me to deliver the best treatment for you and your family.

2. A dental care plan, made just for you

I believe that having a plan to care and maintain your teeth for life is the key to healthy teeth and a nice smile. I take a step back and look at the whole picture. First I assess your muscles and joints and take into account airway, sleep or chronic bruxism issues. Then we evaluate facial profile, and take full photographic records.

Once we have all the information, we will discuss all the available options together and understand how each applies to you, your budget, lifestyle, main concerns and needs. After all, the most expensive treatment isn't always the most suitable. Finally, we decide on a life-time treatment plan and break it down into small steps.

3. Dental results that look and feel great

I believe in providing a result that not only looks great but also gives you the ability to chew your food without trouble. Some of my patients simply want to keep their teeth without knowing that their smile can also be improved at the same time; and this does not necessarily result in a huge bill. I would like to show you some of the cases I've done to achieve that goal (gallery link), and I've included the treatment plan price for your interest.I would like to express my gratitude to the Tamworth community and to all my patients for making me feel welcome and supporting me ever since I first arrived in 2002. I hope that I reflect this in my work and the way that I try to help my patients.

I may not be the cheapest dentist around, but neither am I the most expensive. However, I will take the time to discuss all the options with you to give you the best value for every dollar you invest in your dental health.

Who are my typical patients?

Many of my patients have been referred by others who've been happy with my treatment. Some of them have an idea of what they want to achieve out of their dental treatment, some do not.

Some of my patients walk in very frustrated with their smile and having teeth constantly breaking down and being patched up.

I'm happy to give you answers to issues you may have, for example:

  • Toothache
  • A simple smile makeover that looks attractive and natural to build your confidence
  • Making your teeth whiter and brighter
  • Caring for ageing or broken teeth
  • Restore holes and fractures with fillings that match your tooth colour and look great
  • Replacing missing teeth with implant retained dentures that not only look good but also allows you to chew your food
  • Teeth that are chipped and flat from grinding - do your teeth look short and very worn?
  • Straightening any crooked teeth
  • Reconstructing your smile

A little bit about my past studies:

Right from the first year after graduation, I studied aesthetic smile design. In other words, how to improve your smile in a way that looks natural. Since, I have used white fillings (direct composite veneers) to build many, may new smiles, which gives a result on the day and at an affordable price. During my time working in Inverell, I also expanded my knowledge in general dentistry. I also gained experience at a high-end dental clinic on the Central Coast learning to restore teeth with porcelain veneers.

I further continued my studies in occlusion, the science of how to building up the teeth so that they come together properly. This restores your smile and chewing function in a permanent way. My training then continued into dental implants, starting with replacing one tooth at a time to now replacing all missing teeth predictably.

I was the first dentist in Tamworth to restore missing teeth with implants and now I place them routinely. Orthodontics was my next interest, as I wanted to be able to align your teeth in a naturally beautiful way according to the principles of smile design and occlusion.

After treating many patients who have had multiple ongoing issues (such as facial muscle pain, headaches and neck pain) as a result of grinding their teeth, I became determined to understand how to help these people who are in so much pain constantly. I began to attend courses and research extensively about TMD and chronic pain, which led me to sleep disorders such as sleep apnoea and breathing disorders such as blocked nasal breathing. I asked myself this question: what causes all of these issues in the first place? My search for this answer is how I found my passion in treating children with the goal of detecting and addressing the causes of dental problems.

Thank you to...

I would like to thank all my patients. A special thank you to Tony Aceti who encouraged and pushed me to study and carry out implants. He helped me to overcome my fear by offering to be my first case.

Thank you to Philip Power who offered to be my first 'whole jaw' implant construction case whilst I was still studying occlusion and waited for 2.5 years to complete the entire treatment.

Jeffery Aldridge, who wanted to replace his old upper denture. He came to me and saved almost half the money that was quoted in metropolitan areas, as well as also saving himself a LOT of travelling.

I would also like to thank Dr John Giblin, who was most generous with his knowledge, support and encouragement. Without him, I would not be able to improve my implant skills so quickly. I have assured him, "I will make sure that I won't call you at night again

Personal information:

At 22 years old, I completed my Bachelor of Dental Science in China (1989), finishing 2nd in the year. At 24 years old, I was chosen as the only dentist in China to be sponsored by the Japanese government to further my studies as a postgraduate in Kitakyushu University (one of the top 4 universities in Japan).

There my knowledge and skills in dental implants greatly improved. During my stay, I was also given the opportunity to complete a PhD in prosthodontics, which is a rare and prestigious offer. However, I turned it down in favour of coming to Australia to start my family, and ever since I have called Australia my home.In 2000, I re-graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours from Sydney University.

In 2002, I bought Dr Wong's share of Marius Street Family Dental and associated with Dr Bryant and Dr Moy. In 2009 after their retirement, I bought the whole practice as well as the building. Since then we have been constantly busy making improvements and renovating.

My biggest regret is not spending enough time with my children while they were young. Now they are grown up and more interested in their friends, mobile phones and computers. Both my children are good kids and they're lucky to be gifted academically. The two chose to stay in Tamworth and complete high school at Oxley High rather than going to selective schools in Sydney, and I am proud that they proved you don't have to go to a fancy school to do well.

Vera has now graduated as a dentist from the University of Queensland with First Class Honours and many academic awards. My son, Liam, is now studying a double degree at the University of New South Wales (Chemical Engineering and Material Science) and has spent his last two summer breaks in America and Melbourne assisting in research. I couldn't be more proud, but also miss him a lot. Most patients will also remember my niece, Rebecca, who graduated Adelaide University and worked with us as a dental therapist/hygienist.

Outside of work I enjoy ball room dancing, basketball and table tennis. I have previously won the regional waltz dance competition. Also, from primary school through to University, I was the captain of the basketball team. Nowadays, I am interested in living a healthy life.
