What Is a Dental Emergency?

Dental emergencies can happen without warning. If you're unsure whether your situation requires immediate attention, below are some common emergencies we treat.

  • Severe tooth pain or sensitivity that doesn’t go away.
  • Knocked-out or chipped teeth due to accidents or sports injuries.
  • Swollen gums or abscesses that indicate infection.
  • Broken dental restorations (e.g., crowns, fillings) causing discomfort.
  • Severe Bleeding from the mouth.

If you’re experiencing any of these, don’t wait—prompt care can make all the difference in saving your tooth or preventing complications.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency:

  1. Stay calm and call us immediately at 02 6766 1766.
  2. Gather as much information as possible to help with diagnosis. For example, when the pain started, the nature of the pain, what makes it better/worse, if hurts to bite, if the pain comes and goes.
  3. Get a list of all of your medications and details about any medical conditions you have. Try not to take strong pain medication as it can interfere with our tests.
  4. Try your best to stay hydrated and keep your blood sugar levels up, often dental pain means you aren't eating properly and your body struggles to deal with the stress.
  5. We are here to help so don't hesitate to get some advice for your individual case off our team.
