How to Improve the Look of My Teeth

I’m often asked “what can be done to improve the look of my teeth?” Well, 99 times out of 100 we can do something to help you out.

I’m often asked “what can be done to improve the look of my teeth?”

Well, 99 times out of 100 we can do something to help you out. However, firstly I’d like to know what it is that concerns you about your teeth. Some of my patients are worried about the colour, some are concerned their teeth are too crooked, some are worried about them wearing away. Some just don’t like their smile but can’t put their finger on why.  I will do a thorough assessment of your teeth. Together we will then come up with a plan that you’re happy with. Marius Street Family Dental focuses on getting your treatment plan right before we start so we are happy to book as long as you need to achieve this. We believe that a lot of money, time and trust can be wasted if you haven’t got the diagnosis and course of action sorted out.

Common Things we look at:

  • Tooth Colour - the same as the whites of your eyes creates balance
  • Tooth Shape and size relative to your face and relative to each other. For example we often go for more rounded teeth for females and more square teeth for males.
  • Tooth position. A lot of people think this is just about having straight teeth, but you top teeth should follow your lower lip when you smile
  • The pink stuff - lips and gums. We look at gum recession, whether you show too much or too little gum, improvement of gum health and much more.
  • Black areas and shadows, for example if you have a narrow arch but wide smile you can get black corners
  • Muscles. If you are a clencher and have really bulky muscles around your jaw, this can throw your facial balance out.

Misconception: Cosmetic Dentistry is always expensive and involves lots of treatment.
I can see why this is so commonly told to me by patients who have had cosmetic consults before - they have often been told they need whitening, veneers, all silver fillings replaced, some implants… the list goes on. That may be the case for some patients, but a lot of my patients we just do a few simple things to make a big difference.

Case Example: My Patient with Worn Down Teeth

Let me tell you about one of my patients who had worn down teeth and what I did for him. His lower natural teeth and upper false teeth were all chipping and wearing down. His old denture teeth were too small for his face. I covered his lower teeth with white filling material and made him a new upper denture. As you can see the result is very natural and he thoroughly enjoys his new smile. We were finished in a few visits with complete treatment costing less than $4000, but the difference to his smile is huge!
